A Canadian Reunion on the Alentejo Coast: Colin & Jonny's TowFoil Retreat

There are guests, and then there are friends who keep coming back. Colin falls firmly into the second category.

Four years ago, Colin was actually one of the very first people to join us here at Time 2 Wing on the Alentejo coast. Back then, we were still into wingfoiling, and his trust in coming over from Canada to ride with us is something we haven't forgotten. So when he reached out to say he wanted to return — this time bringing his good friend Jonny along for a TowFoil Retreat — we couldn't have been more excited.

Two Canadians, one Portuguese coastline

Colin and Jonny flew in from Canada with that particular kind of energy you only get from foilers who've been waiting all year for a proper wave session. The Alentejo delivered. The conditions over the week were genuinely solid — not always perfect, because that's the deal with the ocean, but the kind of waves that reward you when you commit.

And the last day? The last day was something else entirely. The swell stacked up just right, the wind played along, and we had one of those sessions where everyone comes off the water grinning and a little bit tired in the best way. The jetski humming, clean swells rolling in, and two riders who knew exactly what to do with them — that's what a TowFoil Retreat is supposed to feel like.

Beyond the water

If you've ever spent time with us, you know that a Foil Retreat at Time 2 Wing isn't only about what happens on the waves. The hours after the session matter just as much. Vila Nova de Milfontes has this small-town magic — a handful of restaurants where the seafood is fresh that morning, the wine is local, and the conversations stretch out as long as you let them.

We laughed a lot. Probably too much. Stories from Canada, stories from past sessions, plans for the next ones. The kind of dinners where you forget what time it is because nobody's in a hurry.
